People who are non-literate all learn mostly through translation. So this method has been used for thousands of
years. I personally have learnt a number of languages through non-translation and as a language teacher that is the
only way I teach. I guess you could question how fast that is ! Trust me, faster than light! :-)
Anyways, I could go on and on.... If you look around at some other threads on this site you will see I am not the
only person saying this.
The issue is that the translation method of learning languages has become so predominant that many people
cannot comprehend another way of learning languages.
Translation has a role but an adjunct one, not the primary role it has been given.

Nonsense. You obviously mean something else, so why don't you tell us what it is, rather that say you learn languages without ever translating.

Please tell us exactly what you mean by the "translation method". I've never heard of it.

Of course you can learn languages without doing any translation. Just use the nature method courses! If you can get a hold of them (I have the French and Italian ones). ;)
Anyone who has used Lingua Latina by Orberg knows that it can be done completely without translation. And in fact is a very comfortable method of learning, in addition to being intellectually stimulating.

Finding information about them is surprisingly difficult. The courses were obscure even before the internet was invented, and haven't become any less so. The easiest way to understand the principle behind them is to simply have a look. You can find Örberg's Lingua Latina floating around the web, or you could pm me if you'd like to see the French and Italian courses.

Except young children or people which can afford to spend years without understanding a word, is there anyone who had learnt a language without using translation ?

Young children learn remarkably quickly!
They are voracious little learning machines.
It's something I have always found almost miraculous.
I suppose that a few adults manage to retain at least a certain amount of this ability, but most of us are not so good in that respect.
