Sure there are methods of learning vocabulary and if you search for them a bit, you'll see detailed explanations of using them either for vocabulary by itself and for learning kanji with it.

Some of them are spaced repetition systems (for exemple Anki), Iversen's wordlists, Gold list method, or less direct, but for many people very effective, methods using learning from context for exemple listening-reading method.

Nothing works well for everyone, try some and you'll see what will suit you.

Khatzumoto is pretty popular. Khatzumoto's motto: input, input, input...(^-^)b

Study 10-15 kanji per week. Make short, easy sentences with them. For example,

食べます。
私は食べます。

otakuclub, how many vocabulary do you know? The list you have is for N2 (1,000 kanji).
My advice, don't start with the list for N2. Know all of N4and N3 first.

For learning vocabulary, see this thread (remove any spaces):
http://www.how-to-learn-any-language.com/forum/forum_posts.a sp?TID=5307&PN=0&TPN=1

You may be interested in this site:

The core 6000 deck contains the 6000 most frequent words in Japanese, each with an example sentence in standard Japanese (kanji+kani) as well as a
kana only version and a translation. There is audio for each sentence as well. The words came from smart.fm which is now a paid for service, and the
frequency was determined from newspaper analysis, so some of the word ordering is quite odd. You can however reorder the file based on the included
sorting fields. Careful though, I don't think every JLPT2 word is in there though, so make sure you complement it with the site you mentioned to find
missing words if you're planning on taking the JLPT2.

I do think you can do 200 words in a day, but I don't think you can do it day after day áfter day - and besides words is just one thing you have to learn
