I was searching mp3's on Amazon.co.uk, and came across a several downloads by Armand
and
Louise Bégué, called Speak and Read French. I would have simply passed them by, but I
noticed that there are also two downloads with Armand and Louise Bégué and Pierre
Capritz, called French Short Stories (vol 1 and 2).

Does anyone know anything about these courses? Do they have textbooks? Is it possible
to buy books of the Short stories collections?

They are quite old, and the audio on the samples shows its age. But I can live with
that
for a decent course.

EDIT: a bit of further searching has revealed a bit more information. The recordings
are being released by Smithsonian/Folkways, and their website has PDF's to download for
each recording. Some of them are just the album cover and back, others contain a
booklet. There is also an album of Bible readings, and an album of Songs for learning
French.

I can't give you any more info. on the books, but wondered if the "Pierre Capritz" listed might perhaps have
been Pierre Capretz of French in Action fame.

Zooming into the Amazon photo, the cover does indeed say "Capritz", so there's either a typo on the book
cover itself, or there are/were two French profs at Yale with very similar names. The latter's not an impossible
scenario (I would then imagine them constantly having to redirect mail intended for the "other" Pierre C), but I'd bet
on the first scenario (and very poor proofreading) being the case.

Does the Smithsonian PDF have any biographical details for Mr. C?

I have the Smithsonian/Folkways CDs - they are OK, but not up to other 60s offerings
like Assimil or Linguaphone - also the sound quality is pretty poor. As far as I know
no textbooks - just the booklet that comes with the CD.
