Today is the 30th anniversary of the Dictionary of Newfoundland English. At least one other Canadian province has its own dictionary: The Dictionary of Prince Edward Island English. Having been born and brought up in PEI, I have a copy of the PEI dictionary.

I've been to St. John's many times (my uncle lives there) and no one speaks the dialect anymore. All ''townies'' sound exactly like Rick Mercer.
So, the Newfi dialect is no more in and around St. John's, unfortunately... I have a dictionary of Baiano Brazilian Portuguese (from the state of Bahia), and Jujuy and Salta Argentine Spanish. ;) About the Dicionario de baianês: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jLyS_86Ynsw I need to get me a Bavarian dictionary next time I'm in Munich. One the delights of learning foreign languages or experiencing them in the flesh as I travel through places where they're used is to come upon forms that are non-standard but most remarkable for being associated with a certain geographical space (as opposed to a certain age group or profession).
