Edit. I added Catalan, this is my TAC 2013 log for both Spanish and Catalan.

So this will be my TAC 2013 log for Spanish. I really hope that at some point I would have time also for Català, but we will see about that later. As there seems to be 2 weeks until the official start of the challenge, I will try to write something about myself and get the content of my head organized somehow. I think it is a nice soft start for having learning log. I am kind of shy or “slow to warm up” (It took me 81 days after registering to this forum to write my first post and even then, I prefer staying in my own log instead of writing “in public”). |

Ei hätää. Moni täällä vain lukee keskusteluja kommentoimatta :-)
Onnea matkaan!

Oh, what I found from library today.. Assimil! I took both "Using Spanish" and "El Catalán sin esfuerzo". I did not have time to stay there any longer and look for novels, but I promised kids that I will take them to library tomorrow or on Friday, so hopefully I manage to grab something nice for myself also. I think I will try some adult book from Jordi Sierra i Fabra, because his children's books are so nice.
After listening "Kafka i la nina que se'n va anar de viatge" I feel happier also with the pronunciation of Catalan. Most of the sound I think I am able to produce with resonable practise. Of course it is going to be difficult to keep the pronunciation ok when really talking, but in general I doubt if any of those sounds would be as hard as, for example rrr is for English speakers.
Unfortunately I had to start also studying "Audit and Assurance" and that is very much out of my language studying time. This week (and next week also) are going to be awful at work, but I hope it gets better after we get over the year end.

I forgot to mention earlier, but I also registered for Half Super Challenge with only books. So it means reading 100 books (99 to go) before year end. Very exciting.

Today I completed Lección 3 in Assimil "Using Spanish" and Lliço 4 in Assimil "El Catalán sin esfuerzo". So far so good. Especially Spanish is pretty simple to follow. I am hoping to try "Luca's method" and start translating lessons to Finnish at some point and then back to TL again after certain period. But I am afraid that this will take my daily studying time very long, and I have to find some additional time or do only one language daily.
At the moment, I am reading "Las alas del sol" by Jordi Sierra i Fabra and spoke some Spanish yesterday with other parents from the class of my daughter. Also changed a few words with the lady in the Chicken shop today about the economic crisis (they have increased price of pollo by 0,50€) and then we compared Papá Noel and Els Reis Mags.
Tomorrow I will start listening "Harry Potter i la Pedra Filosofal" in car when commuting to work.
In Catalan book was abolutely great poem:
Una filla, bona filla;
dues filles, prou filles;
tres filles, massa filles;
I posted it to the facebook wall of my sister's husband. They happen to have 4 daughters and the husband has been living in Baleares when kid, so he knows Catalan..

Good luck with your studies. I really like your log and I understood your Spanish well
and even majority of the Catalan poem (more than enough to laugh :-) ) but I chose to
answer in English to not make you look at mistakes as my Spanish is much worse :-)
You seem to be very busy and I admire you managing to do all that and the language
studies. (And I love Barcelona). I'm looking forward to reading more from you.

Hi Cavesa, how nice to have visitors in here, I really feel myself a bit lonely sometimes. The thing about managing to do things.. Well, to be honest, it is just an illusion :D Most of the time I have the feeling that I have way too many things to do and I end up having nothing done :D Btw, I was very close to move into Czezh about year ago, got a job offer there. But then I thought I could never manage to get all the paper work done there as I do not know a word of Czech..
Catalan
I have listened first cd of Harry Potter i la Pedra Filosofal. I think it is very funny to listen it in Catalan. I understand a few words every now and then, mostly of course when they are similar enough with Spanish, but I still know all the time what is happening. It feels a bit absurd, but I like it anyway. Today I completed 7th Lliço of Assimil, the revision lecture. I can still follow pretty much everything, but I have a bad feeling that it will get really difficult really quickly. All these futuros and pretéritos I have been swetting with Spanish are now delt in first week of Catalan lectures..
Spanish
Assimil is going on pretty smoothly. I would like to go a bit faster with it now that it still feels easy, but I seem to lack time. As always :D In yesterday's Spanish class, we went through "aunque + presente/presente subjuntivo/imperfecto subjuntivo". I think I understod the usage ok, but I will probably never be able to use it correctly in real life, because every single sentence takes me soooooo long time to produce.
Today my daughter was once again invited to a birthday party of her class mate. This time they are in MC Donald's and I am so much looking forward to it. I love those birthdays and the opportunity to speak with all the other parents there :)
