It has always been my dream to one day go to Egypt and explore open an ancient tomb in the middle of the night. Upon discovering this tomb I will hold up an ancient torch with my Egyptian guide, deciphering the 15 foot stone wall covered in hieroglyphics. "You read this?!" My guide asks in broken French; "Yes" I reply, "At least I can read this kind.." If there is only one thing on my bucket list I accomplish than that is it.

Post a language learning related topic that you most want to fulfill in this lifetime, or am I just the odd man out with my goal?

Great topic and great goal!

I have tons of language related goals... for now, I'd be satisfied with a trip to Valencia, Spain during Las Fallas.

Be able to read Aristotle and Cicero in the originals without a dictionary.

Can I be there too, taking the notes? :)

The one on my list would be: I will fill my library with great books from all ages and languages, and read them in the original.

Then I'll give a banquet and invite their authors, and discuss their works with them. Homer, Aristolte, Thucidides, all the ancient dramatists and poets, Shakespeare, Pushkin, Cervantes, Dostoyevsky and the rest of the russians, Voltaire and all the "enlightened" bunch, the Arab scientists and poets, Amos Oz, David Grossman and friends, etc. The invitation list is too long to mention, but you are all invited as well. The party will last for a month and become legendary. Do you think it will ever happen? :)

Have a conversation with an old Irish Speaker in the Gaeltaecht.

Read original works in Irish.

Learn Portuguese and spend a year or so in Rio :)

Reach native fluency in a language other than English.

Inspire and help others to learn languages and adventure out in the world!

Read the complete works of Dostoyevsky in the original, followed by an appearance on Russian TV to discuss (in Russian of course) his influence on Scandinavian writers in the early 20th century.

Indiana Jones style, grab an old torch off the wall that's probably been around several millennium. Perhaps my word choice was unimaginative, a long day at work is usually the best way to sap my creativity.
