Yes, I have the Assimil and it has the same flaws. Not too much has changed, there are just a lot of instances of î that are now â except word-initially and also in some verb forms they have become u (sunt and not sînt aici). I remember older people saying something about this and about using the new spelling which they weren't entirely used to having moved away from Romania ages ago.

I was told it's still pronounced sînt despite it being now written sunt...

I don't remember the pronunciation. Quite simply that it is written sunt. I have not tried my hand at speaking yet and I have shelved Romanian a bit for the moment in favour of Hebrew.

The change to sunt was a way to pay a homage to Latin. It's still pronounced as sînt, despite being written sunt. Arekkusu was right.

I never doubted that? The pronunciation in those other words also never changed, â and î have the same phonetic value. Just noticed the difference in spelling.

Sorry, I just edited my confusing post -- sînt is spelled sunt but pronounced sînt.

If you can devote a reasonable amount of time to each of them, studying several languages concurrently will enhance both your enjoyment and your perspective and ability to grapple with language and language learning.

The Romanian language along with its culture is absolutely fascinating. It boasts a rich literary tradition -mostly untranslated- that can be obtained at ridiculously low prices, and a vibrant cultural and intellectual life. You'll find your Russian lending unexpected help too.

To go on merely imagining what it would be like to study multiple languages will only contribute unease and anxiety. The only way to solve the question is to go ahead and try it out. You won't be the worse for it.

I'm new here, so first: Hi everybody!

Julie says:

different priorities (skills I focus on)

I wholeheartedly agree. My main focus is on Mandarin. It's the one language to which I
devote most of my time. But I also dabble with Finnish, Latin, Spanish, and three other
languages. However, my level is different in all of them. Therefore, the related
"learning" activities are, in fact, very varied and, hence, enjoyable. In Spanish, I
can read a contemporary novel and listen to the news; in Chinese, apart from manuals, I
can read a comic or simple books; in Latin, I can read some history; in Dutch, I just
study some basic stuff with my daughter (who's learning it at school), etc.

If you can afford it (if you have enough time) and you make an effort to remember where
your priorities really are (if you no longer have time, you should drop some
activities), learning several languages can be fun.
