Can someone please clarify for me what the phrase shams al-qawafi (شمس
القوافي) refers to? Namely, I discovered it in this line of verse: وعوصاء من شمس القوافي اعترضتها *** أراوغها عن نفسها وألاوص Though it is from the 10th century I have found the phrase on a bunch of websites, but I don't know what the reference is.
