That's not bad idea, actually. I've read around ten albums of Kalle Anka (Disney comics) in Swedish, and I just bought my first Lustiges Taschenbuch a couple weeks ago. I can't say I read those any faster--if anything, I'm a bit slower than usual, due to the sparse layout of the text. As I noted to daegga earlier, though these comics are meant for kids, they are often not that easy in terms of vocabulary. The language is simply quite different from what one typically encounters in literature, newspapers or even spoken sources. I'll have to swing by the bookstore and browse around, as I'm sure there are plenty of more straight-forward titles out there. I'm glad to hear that my scribblings have been of some use to you. It's still a bit weird to me that you guys really read my log, but it does bring a smile to my face to read all these comments. If I make any cool finds, I'll be sure to share them here! Well, there are many kinds of comic books. Some are meant for adults and use everyday language. I am
lucky there are tons in French. Some may have been translated but i am sure even some original ones are "diggable" somewhere for most languages. 1 person has voted this message useful | |

Sheesh, it's been no less than six months since my last entry! I think I owe everyone a status report--I actually have some interesting things to share for a change--but unfortunately it's getting late in my timezone, so that will have to wait until another time.
If any Norwegian learners are reading this, I recommend you go check out 20 spørsmål, which is a nice little word guessing game show on NRK. All eight seasons of the program can be viewed outside of Norway, all the episodes have subtitles, and there are no pesky time limits! 1 person has voted this message useful | |

DANISH
I just realized I didn't even mention Danish in my last post. I've kept up with my not very intensive media regimen of podcasts and TV shows, totaling about two or three hours of listening a week. I also L-R Harry Potter og Fønixordenen irregularly—I've been at it for a good half a year and I'm only about 2/3 of the way through. In short, other languages and life in general have taken precedence. All things considered, I'm quite happy with my progress. GERMAN Yesterday, I started reading Spür die Angst by Jens Lapidus, the German translation of Snabba cash. I actually meant to get part three, Lass sie bluten (= Livet deluxe), and read it accompanied by the Swedish audio book, but somehow I got the titles mixed up when placing my order on Adlibris, and I ended up with the wrong book. Luckily, it's been a while since I read Snabba cash, and I've already forgotten a lot of the details, so I really don't mind rereading it in German. Probably not. The languages aren't related at all. Maybe there's a loan word here and there, but not that it would give the average Finn a significant discount.
