is there any resource like Michel Thomas for Hindi ::P
i come from south India(Chennai) ,where Hindi is not very popular . but i am ashamed that i don't know my national language . i can understand Hindi to extent as i watch lot of Bollywood movies ,but i cannot talk . i want to start with some audio course and then switch on to ASSIMIL . please put forward your inputs and share your resources thanks mahesh kumar 1 person has voted this message useful | |

If you live in India, could you not just take local lessons in Hindi? Get books and
courses in Hindi etc.? I recommend starting with perhaps Children's Hindi story / text books. I think local resources would be more effective since you are already familiar with the language. 1 person has voted this message useful | |

I have not personally used any of these, but I have heard Teach Yourself Hindi is quite
good. Even if Michel Thomas does Hindi, I wouldn't recommend it because by all accounts, Michel Thomas originals are excellent (the ones he did himself), but since then the franchise has deteriorated. I think the main thing would be for you to learn the script first - here is one place: http://www.avashy.com/hindiscripttutor.htm Pimsleur Hindi - I haven't used this for Hindi, but I do generally like Pimsleur very much, so I would be willing to try it. I use Pimsleur for every language because their pronunciation tends to be excellent. But after script, I would recommend reading - especially original Hindi books if you like reading. 1 person has voted this message useful | |

I think if you already watch movies - no language courses will help you a lot.
You could try to get subtitles files for the movies you prefer. If there are no hindi subtitles for hindi spoken movies - you could turn to the hindi version of movies from other original languages and their hindi subtitles. You could also try to listen to podcasts or radio shows with people speaking hindi where you will listen to more speeches than in movies.
