Hi,

SRS seems a great tool for basic vocabulary, but I want something for more advanced
learning.

At my level in Czech, my vocabulary is extending into various idiomatic expressions,
the meaning of which depends heavily on context.

So, ideally, when I read, say, a web page, I'd like to take out the expression, with
the context, and then have a reasonably detailed explanation of what it means, possibly
cross-referencing it with similar expressions of different meanings. I guess really is
what I'm looking for is for someway to 'gloss' the text.

Does anyone know of any software that would assist with this?

The easiest method would be to extend SRS from words to sentences/expressions. I use Anki for full sentences/expressions, just in L2, together with a pop-up translation dictionary, so I get the words in context. You could do L2>L1 and/or L1>L2. Probably at your level, you could do just L2 sentences/expressions, with an explanation on the reverse side. You could add audio. Lots of flexibility, and Anki is very easy to use.

This doesn't answer your original question, but since you are learning Czech, and now
using Anki, you might find the Anki Deck of Czech Conversational
Connectors useful too.

Learning the connectors certainly helped me in my own struggles with Czech. However, I
apologise in advance, if your own level of Czech is already higher than these.

If you're interested in idioms you could try Tatoeba. I steal French expressions out of it all the time! It's certainly fun to play around with.

You could use Google Chrome and install Dmitry Kutetsky's MyDictionary extension. When this extension is enabled, each time you highlight text, it will automatically be translated and both source and target are added to a vocabulary list.
Unfortunately, the extension doesn't have an export option, but if you highlight the words in the list and copy them, you can paste them as a tab-delimited list into a text editor.
