To students of German or anyone interested in German culture in Leeds area 27-28 Oct 2012
"A German Play" by Eddie Lawler "The Brief Life of a talented Writer" Seven Arts, Chapel Allerton, Leeds, LS7 3PD, 0113 2626777 Sat 27 - Sun 28 Oct, 7.30pm £8/£6 This play depicts the short life of German playwright Wolfgang Borchert (1921-1947), who maintained a principled opposition to the 3rd Reich, although was forced to fight on the Eastern Front, which probably contributed to the shortness of his life. However, he was able to demonstrate his writing talent and promise within that short period. Eddie Lawler has been a tutor of German for many years, most recently with the OU, and is also well known in the area as a talented singer and songwriter, and writer of musicals. He has now turned his talents to the non-musical stage. I saw one of the performances in Bradford Cathedral last weekend, and can thoroughly recommend it. The acting was very good, and the story quite moving. (The play is in English, as you might imagine).
