I, like some others doing the TAC, started last week to record how much time I actually spent studying each language. I'll call this Week 1 and try and update each week. So here are the numbers!
Norwegian 2hrs 50 Finnish 2hrs 5 Persian 2hrs 15 Russian 30 mins French 1hr 20 Spanish 40 mins As you can see Russian is the only TAC language of mine that is falling behind, but now in the new week I'm going to try and work more on it. For Norwegian I've been going through the verb course on memrise which once I'm done should give me just over 200 verbs to use! With Finnish, I've reviewed the different types of infinitives with some great examples and advice from a Finnish friend of mine, the 1st, 3rd and 4th being the more common and important for me to learn. For Persian I've been slowly reading through the colloquial chapters one and two, already I can feel reading the script getting easier though not using the short vowel signs still makes it hard for me to know when they're there or not. Something I'll have to get used to I guess! Overall though it seems to be a very good course, though it's not wrong when it says it's thorough! Only 2 chapters in and I think I need a couple of weeks to make sure I learn everything covered! 1 person has voted this message useful | |

Unfortunately the last week hasn't been as good as the previous week with regards to time spent with the languages. I do however feel like the time I have spent has been beneficial though. I haven't managed to get in anything for Spanish or french in the last week which I'm a bit disappointed with, but I guess some weeks will always be more difficult to find time. Norwegian, however, is going well. The memrise courses certainly make me feel more comfortable with the language and having returned to the beginning of the TY, I was very pleased to be able to go through the first 3 chapters again with no problems. I will re-read and listen again to them and try and make some notes on some of the grammar points before doing chapters 4 and 5.
Again, Russian had quite a small share of the time but more of it is sticking in my mind now - at last! - something to build on! I think I'll try and work on some of the verb conjugations in the next week or two. Lastly for Farsi the Living Language Course finally arrived, so although I haven't managed to read much of the colloquial this week, I have been able to actually listen to some dialogues from the Living Language course which is always good. Great to see that you're also studying Persian for the TAC! We're a rather small group... Though it's a little difficult to find good study materials for Persian on the net, there are a couple of useful resources. Have you seen the links on team Alef's thread (second post on this page)? It looks like you already have good resources, but maybe there's still something you find helpful (I really like the Chai and Conversation podcasts). I'll be following your journey :) Good luck with all your language goals!

@ druckfehler: Hi, thanks for mentioning that. I have tried to follow some of the posts from Team Alef and some of those resources look really helpful, especially the Chai and Conversation podcasts. I also think EasyPersian.com looks pretty good, I haven't gone through many of the lessons but there's over 150 lessons so it must be pretty thorough! Thanks and good luck to you too!
Norwegian 3hrs 25 Finnish 1hr 30 Russian 1hr 50 Farsi 30 mins D: French 30mins I've gone back over chapters 1-5 now with TY Norwegian and so far so good though a few more forgotten words in chapter 5. :( I've also found a site called NorwegianClass101.com which has some good (albeit short) podcasts in Norwegian about various towns/cities in Norway as well as other topics. There is a similar site for Finnish too which I found first. They also have the transcripts too! The Russian I've done this week is mostly just repracticing writing russian using TY Russian script, and starting learning the cursive style and not just printed. Farsi was left out a bit this week :/ but, as mentioned above, I'll be listening to the Chai and Conversation podcasts and also trying to go through some of those EasyPersian.com lessons! Lastly for French, I've found that LingQ has the first 4 tomes of Les Miserables...so I'll be reading it via LingQ too as a way of learning the unknown words. 1 person has voted this message useful | |

Finnish 1hr Russian 20mins Farsi 2hrs 45 French 20mins Another week gone and again one language being left out somewhat - Russian this week. I really don't want to have to drop one out at this stage so I'm going to have to persevere for now. For Farsi I've listened to quite a few of the Chai and Conversation podcasts already! Anyone who is starting out in Farsi and doesn't know about it should definitely check it out. I'm enjoying Norwegian as always and along with Finnish I'm going to try and translate some of the schoolwork I did for French and Spanish so as to produce the language. Maybe in the next week I'll try and post a little introduction etc. in my target languages - I need to get more output done as it's known here, instead of concentrating solely on input. 1 person has voted this message useful |
