Some people are more susceptible to the possible negative effects of roller-coasting bloodsugar levels. I'm one of them. If you aren't, be happy. There are indeed quite a number of things that are more amusing than getting panic attacks because you skipped breakfast.

Oh, and to tag onto DaraghM's point of sleep...
It's believed that your brain does lots of crazy memory type things when you sleep. It
may be important for storing things into long term memory, creating links between data
you learned through out the day, etc.

Ever woke up and that one particular pesky part of a language you've been trying to
learn suddenly seems second nature?

Yeah. Sleep's essential.
