Well, I mean the overall difficulty. But if the complicated verbs are similar and it's the nouns that behave differently, I suppose it's quite a big advantage indeed.
As for the book, I wonder if the vocab is really so similar or everyone's had some exposure or it's supposed to be obvious enough (and you're supposed to get a footnote where it's not obvious)?

The book was essentially written for grammarians, linguists, and grammar students and the vocabulary is
supposed to be obvious enough that they don't provide translation. In most cases it is, and when it's not they put
the translation in quotes next to the word.
