While I agree that it's a good thing to give back to developers who have created software that is free on a number
of platforms, I think that one shouldn't make the assumption that everyone is in a situation where they can pay $25 for an iOS app. While I don't have an IOS device anymore (my iPhone broke due to old age - the few buttons that there were were falling off) I know that I wouldn't pay $25 for an app. There are a handfull of what I think are very good reasons for that. A. I don't know that I will always have a device that can read the files for said app (I had an iPhone with the Anki app for iOS came out - well ok it wasn't called iOS at the time). B. I don't always have the money to spend on something that isn't tangible in a physical form. I will and often do spend $25+ on books, but books are tangible objects that don't normally break (unless the binding isn't great in which I can return it within a set period of time that is longer than Apple's return policy), I can sell books back to bookstores/to other people, and I can hold a book in my hand. I can't hold an app in my hand, I can't sell it back or to other people, and who knows if I'm going to have a device that can execute the files in a few years. While I realize that the same could be said for mp3/wave/ogg files - you can easily back them up and/or convert them to other formats. 2 persons have voted this message useful | |

If you're learning Japanese of Chinese I highly recommend Skritter. It is by far my favorite language app.
