I'm very interested in joining in with the challenge. I'm currently working on my second
language and I'm still below an A1 level.

Since Spanish is my TL, watching movies and shows won't be hard. Destinos alone is 52
episodes long and will count as 26 movies. I'm wondering if Pimsleur counts as audio
books. If it does I think that 3 lessons should count as 1 movie since the lessons are
only 30 minutes long. Destinos might be counted as 3 per 1 movie rather than 2 per 1
movies since they seem to be 30 minutes long.

Does anyone have any suggestions for books for someone who is at such a beginner level? I
have looked over the books at Project Gutenberg and I have no idea what ones are more accessible. Any direction would be greatly appreciated!

An additional concern is that 100 books in 87 weeks (1month = 4.33week) means 1.15 book per week. I've read some people mentioning 1page=1minute, do these people read Manga? Even in French I can't read faster than 2minutes per page. I've read Chinese novels for years and it still takes me between 4.5 and 6 minutes per page (i.e. 10-14p/h). At this rate, a normal novel of 300 pages takes between 20 and 30h, which means between 3h30 and 5h of reading, every single day, during 20 months. Where do I even find time to watch 150h of movies?

One of the languages I'd really want to make progress in is Chinese, and my reading speed there is just not good enough. In fact it's so low I can't even make a decent estimate.

What about other languages? As long as I understand the content: two pages per minute (Swedish/English), up to three pages per minute if it's an "easy" text. At least one page per minute in German and Spanish (where I'm possibly around B1), slightly slower for French and Russian (passive A2/B2). Even "unknown" vocabulary allows me to keep reading, something that can't be done to the same extent in Chinese.

All this being said, I really want to participate in this challenge. :)

I just gave my movie collection a brief run through and it seems that most of them are
also dubbed into different languages. Spanish and French are the most common. Since
Spanish is my TL then this is great news!

I have all the episodes of Seinfeld on DVD, and there are all dubbed in Spanish. I can
easily sit through hours upon hours of Seinfeld.

So now I have at least 100 movies/TV episodes, I'm just lacking books. I'll have to go
check out the collection at the local library. Hopefully they have Dr. Seuss in Spanish
since that is where I'm at currently.

@Necronos, Where did you find the dubbed DVD's of Seinfeld in Spanish? Spanish is my TL and I've been looking for some good shows to watch.

@kenny, the regular DVD's of Seinfeld have the option to change the language to Spanish,
and also to put on English subtitles.

Looking over my movies I found that at least Hot Fuzz, Land of the Lost, The Muppets,
Shaun of the Dead, and Willow all have the option for Spanish dub. All the seasons of
Dexter also have the option for Spanish dub. I'm guessing most everything else has
similar options. I'd be surprised if some DVD didn't come with the option to dub in
Spanish/French at the least.

I've been wanting to get in on one of these challenges since I started lurking here...
This one looks right up my alley. At least, for the movie portion... The books, on the
other hand... I doubt I'll have time to read 100 books. But definitely count me in for
100 French movies and at least 2 books :) And I promise to find more books in French.
There. With that promise I won't feel like I'm slacking. Because I'd have watched the
movies anyways.

The French box set of Buffy is on sale right now on Amazon.fr. If the dubbing is
really good, I'm seriously tempted, but I can't find any example scenes on YouTube.
Anybody else think it's worth ~50€?
!

Buffy is known for being amazing in French. I believe joss himself endorsed it at some point. It is the only
language other than English that recorded the songs for once more with feeling, the musical episode.

Alternatively you could use the English box set if you have it and choose French. That is what I am doing as I
cannot justify buying them in French, especially as they won't work in my DVD player or computer. In fact,
buying the English box set was difficult to justify. This time last year I had never seen buffy, save an episode
when I was very young and could not sleep.

I'm watching the first episode of Buffy right now in French with English subtitles. As a fairly low level learner,
it's a bit of a futile exercise, especially as it is really for nothing more than listening to the language. I suspect
watching the news in French could be better for just listening. I mean, I can't understand either.
