Jackpot!

I went to the local charity thrift store and for $20 US came home with 22 paperback books in Spanish to get me started. I got a nice selection of spy stories, young adult fiction, A 120 page book on the wildlife of the Yucatan, a book on Mexican archeology, a book of Peruvian literature, and two Harlequin Romance novels, plus Fahrenheit 451 and S.E. Hinton's Rumblefish (translated into Spanish as La ley de calle) and a 250-page illustrated collection of famous fairy tales. And I already have the complete set of Harry Potter, Alice in Wonderland, Peter Pan, and a dozen other books in Spanish, so I now have between 40 and 50 books in Spanish just waiting to be picked up a read!

Come on May!!!!!

I've finally given into peer pressure and spent all morning creating my own blog. It still needs some work, but it will have to wait. I'm exhausted.

I also have a question. What if a book is over 1000 pages? Does it count as 4 books? If so, how many pages would count as 3 books?

Good question. I had assumed 100-499 = 1, 500-749 = 2, 750-999 = 3, etc., but maybe we need a ruling on
that. When I made my count of how many books HP in French was earlier in the thread, I based my count on my
equations above.

I really hope that book wise everything should be fine in the Nordic library, so I won't need to mark down to the smaller version of the challenge. :D

While EBooks might not be ideal, remember that gutenberg.org has, for free, a decent number of non-english works, including 42(?) Danish books.

Thanks for the link mate. It will definitely be quite useful, since most of the time I'm on the move/not able to bring a paper book with me. :)

I've put some effort into updating my blog as well. But since I'm a beginner in the field it looks so imperfect in my eyes, but that's all I can do about it so far. :D

I agree with your assessment, especially as it is exactly what I was thinking ;) After all, I could chop my book in half (!) and have two books that were each over 500 pages and would therefore count as two books each, ie four books in total.

Unless we get a ruling that says something different, I'm going with your calculations.

Sounds like a great challenge! I won't be able to participate though, because 100 books
in 20 months is > 1 book per week and I don't have that kind of time, least of all for
only one language...

That's exactly how I thought it too :-)

I'm in... for Japanese. May I count LR'd books and books with parallel texts as normal books? This is assuming, of course, that I actually pay attention to all the Japanese.
