I was exactly like you. I have so much respect for the FSI program and felt I was learning so fast (esp with the drills) but the accent (and archaic speech) just kept me disinterested.
There are not alot of European Spanish material out there - so I ended up purchasing items outside of America. And finally found out a better and free alternative:
Just search for free news podcasts done in Castillian Spanish or Spanish Radio. Wish i found it sooner. My ear for the accent was changed dramatically.

Although it may not be quite as comprehensive as the FSI Basic courses, there's a "Headstart for Spain" course with audio
available at the FSI homepage. If nothing else, it might be a supplement to other materials.
