Anyone used the Advanced English Assimil for Spanish Speakers? I'm thinking of buying a
copy (book only) just for some more advanced Spanish materials.

I don't quite understand what you are trying to do. But I suppose it's not going to work. Isn't there an Assimil Using Spanish for English speakers?

I tried to use Assimil Inglés Perfeccionamiento a while ago and it doesn't worked, perhaps because I was already advance in English.

A thing to bare in mind is that the translations of the Assimil courses(in this case from English to Spanish) use a lot of unidiomatic "expressions" to ilustrate particular grammar point of the target language. So, using an Assimil method in the invere way is not exactly the wisest thing to do.

Yep, I have "Using Spanish" and its awesome. I wouldn't use "Ingles Perfeccionamento"
as a main method!

I just wouldn't mind getting the book for a laugh, and seeing how the English compares
with the Spanish.

I read through the old L'anglais sans peine and found it relatively profitable for adding to my French as well as
quite funny.

I have two friends who are using the "with ease" American English course and really like it a lot, but I don't know anything about the advanced version.

There are also Ingles Esencial Nivel Avanzado and Ingles Mas Alla de lo Basico both by Living Language. I have looked at the beyond the basics one and it seems like it is the same exact level of the Spanish course for English speakers (roughly equivalent to the tougher with ease dialogues). Those living language books can be picked up very cheap here in the US and are in every bookstore and library.

Also, the "new" 100 lesson Assimil Spanish course for English speakers will be out next year.

I imagine you might get a little bit out of it but it would only be like using an
inferior Spanish-english reader. The real value of assimil is in the target language
audio which you can listen to and repeat. With ingles perfeccionamiento you won't have
that. I'd say your better off using authentic Spanish materials, underline what you don't
know as you go and at the end of each chapter get on wordreference.com to translate it
all, then depending on your comprehension the first time, read the chapter again. Good
luck!

Thanks for the advice, but I'm not trying to use it as a main method of study. I'm just
thinking of buying the book for a laugh and wondered if anyone else had done the same.
Thanks though.

@james29 Thanks for those suggestions, I will probably pick up one or two of those at
some point if I find them cheap. I'm very interested to see if the new "with ease" is
as good as the old!

I have been tempted to buy the audio of the "new" Assimil course and just wait for the book. That may be something fun for you considering your Spanish is certainly at a level where you could listen and follow the dialogues without the book. The audio is, of course, the same audio they use for the other base languages.
