I think it is too confusing... orthography never is completely transparent in terms of pronounciation, because there are too many sounds... in such a case to be accurate it is better to just use IPA...

A certain number of ortographic terrorists at crucial points in the development of the English language might have resulted in a more logical spelling. But with all the dialects and idiosyncratic crackpots around a totally free spelling would result in chaos. A certain amount of rebelliousness is healthy for a language, but complete chaos is not.

That's a rather specific pronunciation that isn't really applicable to a lot of the
English-speaking world.

It appears it is not a project of spelling reform for the English language, but aparently to write phonetically?/phonologically? any language by means of more or less the Latin alphabet; so it appears they are pursuing like a transcription system with almost no weird signs outside the Latin alphabet, e.g. they are not happy with the AFI transcription system. Of course this is naive since there are so many more sounds. It belies they are not familiar with inventory of sounds in languages around the world. Hobbyists trying to outsmart AFI. Nothing wrong with it, it is fine for entartainment.

The way I would do it would be to take the AFI table and, for unusual symbols I would choose a digraph or maybe use accents and umlaut; even so at the end you would have such a tremendous collection of letter combinations that it would look even worse and certainly not easier.

Personally I defend AFI because if you use it all the time, you see the connections better and saves time. For example, I never saw anybody realizing that Polish retloflexes and others are perfectly useful for MChinese. If your materials use the symbols correctly, it becomes immediately apparent to you and, if you are familiar with Polish, you learn the Chinese consonants fast.

I lernt that Adele is pronounced adeel :) though. I really needed that piece of information. This singer is becoming influential :)
