Are there any papiamentu speakers on this forum, or any people who would like to learn it?

The language name is "Papiamento", I checked this in my dictionaries.

DEF: Papiamento = Creole language spoken on Aruba, Curaçao and Bonnaire.

I think I will learn it, as it's a bit different to what I'm used to studying.

Are resources easy to come by?

Just bumping this topic up.

I'm going to be taking a stab at learning Papiamentu. However resources are somewhat hard to come by.

There is this available:

Talk Now! Learn Papiamento

Anyone know anything about it - if not specifically then the Talk Now series in general? I normally prefer my learning resources more portable (an Assimil book + iPod does the trick). However, this claims to offer "iPod Integration" whatever that means.

My best friend's family is originally from Curaçao and speaks Papiamentu fairly well. She taught me some of it when we were in school together but I'd be lying if I said I 'speak' it. I only know a handful of words, some basic grammar and I can count to ten. My favourite catchphrase is "Mi ta kens" which means "I'm crazy".

Not that I know of. That is the only company (Eurotalk) that publishes material in the language.

I actually wanted to put this language on my hit list a couple of months ago. The administrator informed me if it is popular enough, then Papiamento will be added on the language list for selection.

Aside from software.

There is a course consisting of 2 books and 2 cds in Dutch (expensive), that I received last week.

One version in English without cds Papiamentu Textbook by Goilo E.R. and a version in Spanish also without cds Hablemos Papiamento same author are also available.

For a reader and audio you could always try out what is available from Dunwoody Press.

One more thing if you can already speak Spanish, Dutch or Brazilian Portuguese, then comprehension wise will be speedy indeed.

For people living in the Netherlands it's not uncommon to learn the language Papiamento, because it's the language of the Nederlandse Antillen.
