Huh? If it took 10 years to learn a programming language, we (computer scientists) would
be obsolete by the time we were ready to write a program. That's just ridiculous. |

I think comparing cost to other language materials is a little misleading. With the
right knowledge and methods, you can efficiently and enjoyably learn a language for
practically nothing (public libraries, the free online FSI materials, assemble your own
bilingual texts to use with public domain audiobooks, make friends with native speakers
etc.) With the wrong approach, you could spend years, spend thousands, and have little
to show for it.
When setting a price, there will be a value for which you would expect the maximum
return.. as price goes up, sales go down, but total revenue might continue to rise.
This value is impossible to know with any certainty, unless you are a big publisher
with sales information about a whole range of similar products. I would suggest though,
that you set the price at the lower end of the price range that you expect to produce
the maximum profit. This might mean a small decrease in your earnings, but might mean
that your materials would benefit many more people, who might be prepared to also
purchase any other products you produce in the future.
It may be that you have to chosen to sell at a high price to differentiate your product
from other similar materials on the market, and give the expectation that the learner
will benefit more from your course. Well, people do generally associate cost with
expected benefit. Pricing is difficult.
You might think about giving away a number of free 'review copies' to some of the more
well known members of this board, on the understanding that they will produce an honest
review. People would probably want some assurances before spending that much money.

He's smart not to stick around. I can't think of a polyglot, selling a product, who has done well by defending
themselves here. Much as I dislike him, Benny has probably been the most successful.
