I have both - the Latin American Spanish course is of the later style of Linguaphone
course (like Dutch and Afrikaans) in that integrates the workbook into the lessons. It also does not go as far as the Castilian version. 1 person has voted this message useful | |||||||||

Yeah, in many ways it was very good, but it had a few oddities, didn't it? Like using "mirar la televisión" instead of ver (my understanding is that mirar is only used like this in certain areas such as Barcelona- unless you are watching the TV set expecting it to do something ha ha), didn't it? 1 person has voted this message useful | |||||||||

Thanks. I don't know enough to list which areas use it and which don't (hence I gave Barcelona as an example), I only took home from browsing on wordreference.com that some areas do but most don't. My point was that this is a beginner's course and ought to mention things like the fact that most areas don't use mirar like this (because I have seen someone corrected in rather stark terms on wordreference for using this construction, although others later pointed out that it is used in some areas) but it doesn't. 1 person has voted this message useful | |||||||||

When the course was written, TV had only been around for about 15 years in Spain, so maybe the choice of words
