Random review, you mention that there are various ways to study Assimil. How can I find
out what these methods are? I had no idea that there were different approaches. I did
see someone talking about passive waves and active waves but assumed that was part of
the course. Is this not the case?

Yes, that is Assimil's recommended way. Then there is Professor Arguelles' recommended
way, which you can find in his subforum. I think it is the best way, but for a couple
of reasons I've had to modify it for my purposes, this makes it slightly less effective
(but still very powerful) but more practical for my circumstances. Basically I shadow
with the target language text in front of me first, then with the English text and
finally without the text (this is the opposite way from what he recommends). I also
mostly skip the scriptorium step...but out of laziness, not because I think it's
rubbish. I learnt a lot from how James29 used Assimil, you might
want to read his log.

Do a google serarch for htlal forum and Assimil and you'll find loads of other
suggestions.

Look on the bright side - you can cheer your newly adopted team in their own language on
Sunday (Forza Italia!) :-)

haha yes, I couldn't believe the result of the semi's I fully expected Germany to go
through. I shall certainly be watching the match on Sunday. I may even drape the
Italian flag over my sofa in support! :D
