Does anyone have experience with (or short of that, has anyone heard rumors about) Practical Audio-Visual Chinese, 2nd Edition? It is a 5-level set used widely in Taiwan featuring textbooks, audio files, workbooks, and videos. I'm considering using it to reinforce my base in Mandarin (with traditional characters) after I finish levels 1 and 2 of Integrated Chinese.

How advanced is each level? Are the workbooks helpful for self-study, or unnecessary? Is the audio useful? Thanks!

Thanks Snowflake. I had come across that review, but it is a review of the first edition. There is a new version out for all 5 volumes, published in 2008:

http://www.amazon.com/Practical-Audio-Visual-Chinese-Edition -Book/dp/B0043WNUP8/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1341524769&sr=8-6 &keywords=practical+audio+visual+chinese

The few reviews it has on Amazon are all 5 stars for volumes 1 and 2. None of the other volumes has been reviewed yet.

I did find these reviews of the new edition, they are much more complete than the Amazon reviews:
http://www.snigel.nu/?p=1004
http://www.snigel.nu/?p=5676

The reviewer gives them 4 out of 5 snails. I take snails to be a good thing.
