And that's exactly it. Some people can't stand seeing other people being liked and/or
feeling good about themselves without trying to bring them down a notch. Unfortunately,
this one knew how to hit a sensitive spot. Because of your history, telling you to just
forget about it and move on it's easier said than done. In the meantime, just go on as
you normally would and just let time do its thing.

I somehow managed to overlook this bit completely. That's exactly right. If there is
anything more underneath that message other than very weak claims about your
spelling, which are made completely redundant by your dyslexia anyway (who the hell
made dyslexia such a hard word to spell anyway??) it may well be because you're a very
prolific poster here, are very well liked by the very vast majority of us and come up
with fantastic insights. You also think of questions that I *always* kick myself for
not thinking of before you. I always think "well, it's obvious to ask that now, but
why haven't we before now??" And some people get jealous of that level of respect
and just general awesomeness. You can do very little to help others' small-mindedness,
unfortunately. Now I'm going to do exactly what I don't want to do, because I can't
think of any other way to deal with it, and say:
"Try to put it from your mind. You can interpret it one of two ways as I see it -
you can let it prey on your mind, which won't do anything positive for you, or you can
go on as you normally would, remembering everything I and all that have gone before me
have said, knowing that the person who sent the message is wrong, and by not letting
them bother you, you've won".

What bothers me most about that is that you've stressed that you are dyslexic many times before. I can't even imagine how much effort you put into your writing - and I wouldn't be surprised if I made more typos than you do, simply because I tend to be careless and distracted even when I mean to concentrate on what I am writing.
You have my deepest respect for writing, and expressing yourself so well even though it is harder for you than for the average person. And that is independent from the respect and admiration I have for the content of your postings and the person you seem to be.
Apart from that, I think one has to be a bit lenient about a possible margin of error when dealing with languages.
Of course being exposed to errors is confusing, but the truth is that native (and fluent) speakers' speech and writings are littered with ideosyncrasies, mistakes and errors, it is just that most of the time, most of the words or forms or pronunciations are correct.
Even professionals make mistakes - news anchors, editors of publishing companies etc. (I think there are some jokes within the profession about how every new edition of a book has eliminated the old typos and instead added new ones.)
Once you start using 'real language', you have to learn how to cope with such irregularities.
My rule of thumb is when I have encountered something about five times, I should memorize it (or figure out if it's a common mistake.) And honestly, people can think for themselves, and ask questions if there's something they don't understand. Trying to avoid every possible mis-interpretation of your utterances means you have to stop communicating, and even then people misunderstand you.

My first impression was that the writer had some form of social disorder. That he had perhaps been criticized and turned to someone he considered one of our most esteemed members and decided to criticize you in order to feel better about himself.
There is something odd about the letter that truly justifies discarding it immediately and forgetting about it. We all make typos in our answers. So what.

Thank you so much for all your kind remarks. You do not know how much that means to me. I guess what bothered me about this particular PM was not that he pointed out that I make mistakes. Like I said, I know that, and I have on a number of occasions received PMs from people who pointed out spelling errors to me.
The thing is that it has always been done in the kindest possible way, so that I am really happy for the help. I do of course want to improve my English, like everyone else, and I have never before felt anything but gratitude towards the people who have pointed out errors to me, particularly when they are recurring ones, that I need to work on. I think that is just great!
It is just that there was something about the tone in this one, that made me uncomfortable, and did not really make me feel like the main intention was to help me. I guess I have been really spoiled on this forum. Everyone has always been so nice, that it feels like a virtual home. Some of you I know so well that we can tease eachother, still knowing that we have nothing but respect for eachother. I guess that I have become so comfortable here, that I have been sticking my neck out too much.

I know lots of well-educated native English speakers who are terrible spellers. I'm a good speller, although
sometimes I'm not sure about hyphens (do I need one in "well-educated"?).
I read about Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) a while back. They claim that bad spellers tend to think about
the sound of a word too much. A good speller thinks of a word visually, like a solid object. One tip was to imagine
writing a word on a big blackboard.
Anyway, you ain't a bad speller Cristin!

Really?!? I make typos all the time and no one has ever written to tell me! Maybe it's just jealousy.

I'm suprised too. I can't say that I have spotted more typos in Solfrid Cristin's posts than in everybody else's.
Edit: Correcting a typo...
