I like the way Swedish sounds, but it is true that the language sounds a bit monotonous (in French : monocorde).
If I had to describe it visually, I'd say it is a black and white language, all in nuances and shades of the same colour.
Some words are accentuated, which is the best give-away that an English-speaking Swede is a Swede.

If you want to hear a sound clip with both Italian and Swedish in it, here it is:
http://nobelprize.org/literature/laureates/1997/fo-lecture.r am
This is a clip of Dario Fo, 1997 Nobel Prize winner for Literature, giving his nobel lecture. It's in Italian with a Swedish interpreter, so you get to hear both. :P
You can find the text of the whole lecture here:

Jradetzky, I don't think that there is one single "American" accent. But they are all pretty bad, Canadian accents included. The English spoken anywhere else is more appealing to me but surely because it's more "foreign."
I think that Italian is a beautiful language. I did the 10 cassette Pimsleur course just before I went to Italy for a month on my honeymoon. I fell instantly in love with it and learned just enough to get myself into trouble. I will learn it, but I have to finish Spanish, and French and German.... Really, Italian is on my short list.
In fact I love every language. I don't think I've ever heard a language I didn't like. But my favorite language will always be the one I'm currently learning. What other way is there to stay motivated?

To Souley on Swedish:
When I got the Pimsleur Swedish and the FSI Swedish courses I started listening to them but had to stop because it was so unpleasant to my ear. Being a Germanic language, I was expecting to hear something like German, Dutch or English, but I was struck by the strange intonation pattern and by how vague or lightly pronounced some sounds were. It reminded me of Indian speakers of English.

Hei, Souley...
Jag kan inte tale på svenske...men jeg kan litt norsk; og derfor kan jeg skjønne litt av det svensket språket. Og jeg kan si også at jeg liker hvordan svenske høres ut.

Btw,
Hope that last post didn't violate the "no chit chat" rule.
If so, my apologies.

Seth,
Thanks for your concern for the (new) rules on the forum. Since you ask, I'd recommend you use the multilingual lounge for this type of discussion, it's perfectly appropriate.
If you agree I'll move your post in Swedish over there.
