One more step makes it even better.

In OpenOffice and probably in Excel, save the parallel columns as HTML. The two columns and the cells are preserved and will automatically re-size as necessary in your browser. You can increase or decrease the text size as you wish and everything is still nicely aligned. You can also use all your browser tools such as pop-up dictionaries or on-line tools.
