Hi,
the principal goal of doing what I did is: to have a document which has theses properties: 1) editable (not the pdf, but the epub, xhtml and xml versions)(making new exercises, extract some parts of the lessons etc ...) 2) searchable (you cannot search anything in a pdf made with scanned pages (images) 3) easy to translate (with OmegaT for example) 4) it's xml so, you can extract the vocabulary, or the exercises .... 5) easy to read on any device: I made pdf but also epub format, online, xhtml. 6) easy to link with audio files (on the way: I have to decide if I 'll make embeded audio or not ...) 7) The xml sources I made available (docbook 5) allows anybody to take the document and do what he wants with it. (new formating, modifications etc ...) and first at all: I just wanted to do that :); it's a way for me to work on Russian material, to read and improve my knowledge. (in English too by the way) best regards, Eric! ps: I have to add that I like very much programming (since 1976..), typography (TeX and LaTeX) ... I found a way to use the LaTeX backend of docbook (DBLatex) and got it work: the pdfs are very nice to look at and to read . I'll put them on my site this weekend. I added today: Comminicate in Russian part 1 (1972) Available as usual on Yojik, DLI submenu. Hi,
I added today: Communicate in Russian part 2 and 3 (1972) Available as usual on Yojik, DLI submenu. Also was added the first unit of FSI-German-Basic-course: same website. Note: my server was hacked last end december: it took some time to install a new one; the web site is not fancy, but everything is there. I also reanimate the shtooka website , which was down for several months: I get the image of the site on the "internet archives" and built a static site; it was a big time work, but all ressources are now available again (collections of audio words/phrases) (my wife recorded a lot of Russian words for shtooka) You'll find the "new" old shtooka site here: oldshtooka I know that it's not perfect (I don't have the server side programs), so the site is only static, but I think the ressources are valuable. Like usual, send to me errors/mistakes ... Eric Edit 10H50 today : the links on the website are corrected ...
