Although I find myself to get English spellings right most of the
time, even the "obscure" ones, this also is a word I have problems with. Another one is occur.

The words beginning with occ- come, I believe, from Latin: occlude, occupy, occasion, occidental, occult. I don't know if this is a Latin prefix, or if they are just superficially similar words.

Yes, you are right. Those are words of Latin origin. The prefix in question is "ob-" which is assimilated to "oc-" before c.

"Wyoming" is quite hard to spell. The English spell rules aren´t easy either. "Early" is
somewhat problematin for me..

The word "tomorrow". I never remember whether there is a double "m" or a double "r" -
if I type I usually have to write both and see which one looks right :). If you come up
with any nice mnemonic for that please let me know :)

Some years ago, I used to have the same problem with "view" vs. "wiev": I was always
90% sure that "view" is the right spelling but still had to type "wiev" just to see how
wrong it looks :) (that's probably an interference from my native Polish where "w" is
pronounced the way the English "v" is).

Plus, I tend to forget in some cases which spelling is American and which one is
British so I'm not as consistent as I would like to be.

The best thing to help you spell better:

Activate the spelling checker in your browser.
All words you've spelled incorrectly will be underlined.
After that, make sure you write down (on a piece of paper or in a notebook)
all those words.
When you have time, just take a look at this paper (or in a notebook)
to make sure you know how to spell these words correctly. ;)

You can remember it this way: "Tomorrow" consists of the two parts "to" and "morrow", which is an ancient word for "morning". So there can't be a double m.
