Has anyone used this set of vocabulary e-books published by T & P books? They include
some very rare languages such as Belorussian and Chechen. Aimed at English speakers, it is a nice collection of vocabulary books, especially for those rare languages. I have downloaded the trail version of the Russian , Belorussian and Ukrainian books. Here are some of the observations: 1) The thematic topics are parallel across the three books. There you find the same topic introduced under the same chapter number. The words introduced are exactly the same in English. 2) The books do introduce the phonetics of the languages and they have marked the stress of each word. However, the phonetics are introduced using a simplified IPA symbols which may not the real sound exactly. This is especially significant in Russian for the soft consonants. 3) There are 4 types of books for each language: 3000, 5000, 7000 and 9000 words books. Some information regarding the website:
Although the website states that 36 languages are available, only 20 languages can be directly accessed from the website and download the books. They are: Armenian, Azerbaijani, Belarussian, Bulgarian, Chechen, Estonian, French, Georgian, German, Hungarian, Italian, Kazakh, Latvian, Lithuanian, Romanian, Russian, Spanish, Turkish, Ukrainian and Uzbek. I think the reason for this arrangement is that this site is pretty new and not all books except the first 20 languages are ready for download. 1 person has voted this message useful | |

I have the Danish 9000 one and I love it. The only downside is that it's native-target only, so you can't use it for looking up foreign words.
It appears to be a Russian company, aww. Explains why they're so widely available in Russia (and I'm always tempted to buy one :D) 1 person has voted this message useful |
