I'd really love to start learning Czech, but I'm having trouble finding learning materials.

I have loads of Czech learning materials. This is my favourite: Do you want to speak Czech?
As well as the textbook, make sure you get the accompanying CDs, which contain several hours of recordings. Don't bother with the workbook, though, since it is not very helpful. There is also a second volume for more advanced Czech. It is not as good as the first volume, and is hard to work through, but with determination and effort will take you to a higher level than any other textbook I have come across. I like the Czech Fast Course because it's free. The audio is about 12 hours long, and includes a lot of English translations, which makes it useful for commuting. Edited by DaraghM on 21 June 2012 at 4:02pm 2 persons have voted this message useful | |

I would recommend New Czech Step by Step. There is also a follow-up course Krok za Krokem 2 (Level B1), and now there is an additional beginner's course Čeština expres , which seems to take things at a gentler pace.
I also used 'Do you want to speak Czech'. it was OK, but a little dry, and I didn't like the recordings. The recordings for Step by Step use actors with pleasanter voices and the language seems more contemporary. There are sample pages here but you can order the books on Amazon. Hi,
does anyone know good intermediate resources in Czech? e.g. books (beside Narnia and Harry Potter) interesting magazines in the internet or maybe something for L-R. 1 person has voted this message useful |
