Hi everyone, I don't know if this is the right place to ask, if not, I apologise.

British media seem dominated by received pronunciation (no surprise RP is also called
BBC English)... and that's fine because it is a really clear accent, very useful for
people who need to practice their general listening skills.

But now I would like to move on to something less easy which is the Northern accent(s).
The problem is that apparently it seems that British TV was cleansed from those
accents... Where can I find something (movies, TV series, TV programmes, also radio
programmes or anything else) that can help me improve my comprehension of Northern
English?

Maybe I should look for local TVs and radios rather than for national ones... But I
really need some help...

Just to clarify: by Northern English I mean the English spoken in Northern England, not
Scotland.

There are lots!

Series: Coronation St, Emmerdale, Shameless, The Royal Family, do they still make
Brookside? Wasn't The Likely Lads set in Newcastle or something?

So I'll be more radical and I'd like to ask you about movies and series with Scottish accent ;)

If you're a bit younger you might enjoy "Geordie Shore", the UK version of "Jersey Shore" it's set in Newcastle with people from Newcastle (and 1 from Middlesbrough). It's really different from it's American counterpart in one way, but of course partying ia the theme.

Which northern accent? Tyke, Manc, Scouse, Geordie, Mackem, Cumbrian?

Any here's a funny version of the Bible in Tyke:

Two films in Northern accents are Billy Elliot and Brassed Off.
They are both located in the Northern coalfields (County Durham and South Yorkshire) and feature the local accent.

Last of the Summer Wine (Yorkshire)
Auf Wiedersehen Pet (two Geordies and a Liverpudlian)
Byker Grove (Newcastle. Teen soap. Ended a while back I think.)

If you like stand up comedy you could try to find some shows from the following
comedians:

Sarah Millican (Newcastle)
John Bishop (Liverpool)
Jason Mansford (Manchester)
Peter Kay (Lancashire)
Lee Mack (Manchester)

Most of them have been on Live at the Apollo.
