Hey all,
I've been trying to find this online, but I've had no luck. Sometimes, my Chinese character book will show me a slightly different picture of a character than the font on my computer. Nothing huge, just a diǎn going from left to right instead of vis versa, something of that nature. I know this isn't a huge deal, I am just curious how much variation is allowed in a typical character, what kinds of things are allowed to change from personal preference? I suppose this type of thing would be intuitive to someone in a country where these characters are seen daily, but I get confused when I'm told to make a stroke one direction, and it is another direction in some fonts. It hasn't caused any real problems yet, I just want to know what the accepted standard deviation is, and what must be exact. Thanks for any help!

Just learn whatever is in your book and the rest will come with exposure.

It might be due to one character being hand written or in a gothic font, and the other being a michino character with
seriefs. The latter ones have their origin in wood block printing, and thus did not conform to the limits of a brush
and therefore evolved into looking different than the hadwritten styles.
