I'd love to try Subs2srs for Chinese because I noticed that I lack phrases rather than
vocabulary. Does anybody know where I can find Chinese subtitle files (i. e. not integrated into the movie)? I'm particularly interested in subtitles for soap operas and comedies, as these would supply more natural dialog than the historic movies or fantasy ones. 1 person has voted this message useful | |||

I don't think we have individual subtitles for most of the Chinese dramas or comedies, so far as I can remember, the subtitles are all embedded in the video, except for the movies that were released internationally, like "Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon" If you don't mind using those embedded subtitles, you can search lots of TV series on popular Chinese video site like youku.com or tudou.com (some of them are restricted to Chinese IP address, so you may need to try different series to see if they are available for IPs abroad) However, one interesting thing is that western (USA, UK, etc) TV series are exceptionally popular in China (for example, the Big Bang Theory, Grey's Anatomy), you can easily find the well-translated Chinese subtitles for these series at shooter.cn I know it might not be what you want, but since there's huge difference between the languages, it might be interesting to see how English is translated into Chinese in a very very Chinese way 1 person has voted this message useful | |||

Unfortunately subs2srs only works with soft subs. I don't mind embedded subtitles while
watching movies - they are a big help - but for this program I need separate subs. 1 person has voted this message useful | |||

I think what Bao was saying is you generate the subtitles, and make your card model with the audio as the question, and the video snapshot as the answer. The video snapshot will then have the Chinese text on as the answer to the audio. To correctly split the audio/video you download the subtitles in any other language that more or less matches up just for the timing information. That was what I meant and couldn't express well. I've done it before with a Cantonese movie. You can even set the parameters so that only the subtitle line is shown of each snapshot.
It should be possible to rip a newer DvD you own to have separate idx/sub subtitles, but those are still image based and you would have to OCS it with a program like subrip, if that even works with non-Latin characters. Still, it would be error-ridden and a major ... hassle. I don't know about Chinese editions of foreign movies, but I've watched too many Spanish and French movies that had quite different subtitle and overdub translations so that I'm wary about using those without checking thoroughly first. At least for Taiwanese dramas, the burnt-in subs seem to follow the spoken dialogue pretty closely. (Well, I can't judge it but at least the syllable/character count usually matches up ... uhm.) 1 person has voted this message useful |
