Greetings friends,

I have a question to ask about Assimil's "Arabic With Ease Book".

Due to the all too many horrendous reviews I have read about this course, I had made it a point to not shell out any money on it. Well earlier today a friend said she no longer had any interest in the book and she gave it to me because she understands that I am currently learning Arabic (MSA/Written).

The thing is she doesn't have the tapes to go with the book.

How beneficial is the book without the tapes? If my pronunciation is considered above average compared to a lot of other beginning students, do I still need the tapes anyway?

Is it possible to adapt the Assimil format using my other audios?

Looking forward to your replies.

It's always best to have the audio, but if you have other materials with audio, you'll probably do fine without the
tapes.

Thank You Tractor for the suggestion. I haven't started using it yet but after just going through the book and flipping through a few pages, the book itself almost reminds of Vest Pocket Arabic the way it is formatted and structured.

I find that the audio is an essential part of the Assimil courses. It is important for revising lessons and putting them into your memory.

I work through the lessons and play the audio through the day when I can and play through the lessons while I am driving over a distance. I find I am mentally working through the lessons again. Understanding a spoken lesson is quite different to understanding what you read.

After reading Fanatic's response, I'll clarify my statement a little bit. It's best to have the audio, and to really benefit
from an Assimil course, you do indeed need the audio. However, I think it's better to use an Assimil course without
audio (provided you have other sources with audio) than not using the Assimil course at all.
