Is there anybody on this form who, besides myself, translates or is interested in translating technical/scientific texts? If so, what languages, what subjects, why, etc.?

Has English had any impact on technical vocabulary development/breadth in the source/target language?

I do translate some technical German-Czech texts, with very sparse English-Czech translation in between (I am not good enough to translate technical English except in emergencies). All of it in engineering fields (civil, mechanical, road construction...).

Few years ago it was much easier than translating financial and accounting texts, worst were law and employment themes.

Technical texts are difficult but relatively clear cut. One will rarely find something in source text which doesn't exist in the target language. Even the unknown words one cannot find in dictionary or even online do exist in equivalent - competent proofreader or "Phone-A-Friend" will help here.

I find it very difficult to translate text containing concepts where I know that there isn't equivalent in my native language because the situation is handled very differently by our code and customs. It is easier now than it was, because the people are at least aware of these differences but a translation which needs explanation notes is simply awkward.
