Where is this influx of "English speakers" coming from?

I listened to a BBC radio broadcast lately where they discussed the increasing number of university courses in Europe being taught in English. Several Swedish people were interviewed and not one of them gave the impression that the Swedish language was under any sort of threat from English. Sure, they need English to communicate with the wider world but they speak Swedish among themselves and will continue to do so.

Moreover, a Swedish professor of languages pointed out that as a small seafaring and trading nation, Sweden has always embraced foreign languages. Sweden also has also contributed widely to the development of science. 500 years ago, scientific findings would have been published in Latin, 100 years ago German and today English. Maybe in the 23rd century we will see wider usage of Chinese and Russian....but the Swedes will still speak Swedish.

In all European countries with a high degree of exposure (=TV programs and movies subtitled and not dubbed), people speak good English.

Additionally, I believe in Holland and much of Scandanavia, people are able to pick up TV broadcasts direct from the UK. Also, they don't dub movies in the cinemas whereas countries like Germany and Spain do.

Most Scandinavian and Dutch people speak with clear American accents, making me think they don't watch much British TV and films.

Most Scandinavian and Dutch people speak English with Scandinavian and Dutch accents. I don't know about Dutch
TV, but on Scandinavian TV channels there are plenty of British productions, although not as many as the American
ones.

Yes, but the ones who speak it with a foreign accent usually do so with an American accent.

Some have an accent that sounds more British, but most I've heard are definitely influenced by American English more.

Dutch people sound like Dutch people when they speak English. The accent is instantly recognisable.

You're very, very, wrong. Can you please stop talking about things you've got no idea about? It's getting pretty
frustrating, especially as a Scandinavian, to read what "where supposed to think"...
