i've think everyone starts out that way when learning a language. drowning yourself in japanese by constantly writing it, listening to it, reading it, and even trying to think in it helps a lot. your mind will eventually just stop translating it the more familiar you become with japanese. i know because i used to have the same problem with Spanish and it wasn't until i intensified my exposure with it that the mental translating just stopped.
