It is available on www.amazon.com (4 to 6 weeks) or www.amazon.co.uk for immediate delivery and 50% off RRP so £15 per set.

I'm now working through Italian which (not unsurprising) uses the same template as for Spanish. It is very good also.

I have fully finished the course now, and it is a very good course indeed, but…
The more I listened to the course, the more I got annoyed with Rose Lee Hayden. I'm sure she is a very nice person, but she isn't anywhere near as good as Michel Thomas. Secondly, the course focuses on cognates way too much for my liking, and Rose goes on to say that using the cognates in the course, you'll be right at guessing new words over 90% of the time, well I was making my own words using these cognates and was not right 90% of the time, but more like 60% of the time, so she was some way off! A lot of the "1000" words that are taught aren't everyday words either, one that comes to mind in "navigable", I'm not sure about everyone else, but I don't use this word everyday, there are plenty more like this.

All in all I would definitely recommend the course, because it gives you extra practise with the verbs using different vocabulary, but if I had to choose between "mastering vocabulary" and this course, I would go with the "mastering vocabulary". However I do stress that I like this course, but it's not all its cracked up to be. Another bit of defence is that it helps you with gender and prepositions etc…

I agree with Kleberson that many of the words that are used in the Cognates section of the vocabulary course would be seldom used but I think that that underlying idea is to get you used to guessing the words that are likely to be similar in both languages and therefore give you a 4000 word vocabulary without much effort at all on your part.

Personally I liked Rose Lee Haydon, she was very encouraging, but maybe on hearing this course a few times all the 'yes, that's right' comments and 'well dones' may begin to grate. Certainly her Spanish accent is better than Michel Thomas's and the recording does use native speakers as a pronuciation model so is a big plus.

Out of the six CD's only two are devoted to Cognates, another 2 to developing use of verbs including radical changing verbs in Spanish and the final CD covers everyday expressions, when to use por/para and ser/estar.

Overall, I think very much worth the £15 that this costs on Amazon.

I've just ordered the Spanish Vocabulary Course from Amazon, and am beginning to have second thoughts about it after reading a description of the CD on Hodder and Stoughton's website: Introduction of approx. 30 new verbs, mostly -AR verbs since these constitute 90% of all Spanish verbs. Only 30 new verbs? Is anyone able to tell me how many new words (ie. not cognates) that the CD provides. With 6 CD's I would hope that it lives up to the synopsis provided on Amazon and has at least 1000 new words. One reviewer very kindly provided a list of some of the verbs (around 75), but now I am wondering if these arent all of them. Could anyone clarify?

Many thanks.

I think the best part about that link is the fact that the audio for the first CD is available in the little flash app.

Chapitres.com has the table of contents (basic course outline) in pdf, as well as the audio streaming in wma.

As somebody who's listened to the Michel Thomas French->English course, it's sort of amusing to hear a similar course going the other way.

Harold Goodman, the author of the new Michel Thomas Mandarin course (to
be published September 2007) has a website and has written a very
interesting article about how he learned from Michel Thomas and how the
course came about.

Looks like this is going to be an excellent course for anyone learning
Mandarin and may give some useful tips for those learning other languages
using tones.
