I received this reply from Ginny Catmur at Hodder regarding the Wyatt Woodsmall book:
"We did reject the Woodsmalls' manuscript about the Michel Thomas Method, but not for the reason that you cite. We are totally committed to making the Michel Thomas Method better known in the educational world, which is why we are to publish 'The Learning Revolution' by Dr Jonathan Solity: go to http://www.hoddereducation.co.uk/Title/9780340928332/Michel_ Thomas_The_Learning_Revolution.htm for details.
We are indeed forward-looking publishers and champions of Michel's unique methodology: our ground-breaking publication of Paul Howard's adaptations for schools of the Michel Thomas courses amply proves this - and I personally am totally committed to the Method, as editor of Michel's Advanced courses and of the courses in the new languages."

I'm just going by what I heard from Woodsmall's lecture as to why his manuscript was rejected.
stultus, I read your article. I'm surprised at how a public school would adopt the method using ¡Es Posible! I always remember mine being what MT would describe as the mind prison. Good luck with the trial course!
I checked out the website:
http://www.michelthomasforschools.co.uk/Spanish/PupilSection /Pupilssample.htm
Apparently this program is only available to schools. Is it because the price is too high for individual use? I couldn't find a price.

I checked out the link about Dr. Jonathan Solity's book. In the table of contents I noticed that only one chapter is dedicated for an analysis of Michel's programs for foreign language teaching. I hope that there won't be any skimping on this topic. Knowing MT's philosophy on the educational system is fascinating, but I'll be buying the book primarily for the analysis on foreign language teaching.

Yes, I had the same reaction when I read the table of contents. It does say "detailed analysis", but I am willing to bet that it is nowhere near as detailed as Wyatt Woodsmall's.

Kugel,
The ¡Es Posible! course costs £600. It includes the Phase One and Phase Two packs with Schemes of Work, fully scripted lessons plans, works sheets, listening comprehension CD, Teachers Resource CD (including a PowerPoint presentation for each lesson), games... also in the pack is a set of 20 Pupil Resource CDs with revision presentations, interactive games, etc. The pack includes a copy of the original foundation course and the original advanced course.

Would the ¡Es Posible! cover an entire semester? Does it go beyond the original advanced course? If so, by how much?

It covers all of the material of the original foundation and advanced courses. I am planning to use it with a year 7 class next year. They will have 2 hours of Spanish per week and I expect it to take up almost all of the year just for the foundation course (phase one). There are 30 modules in the foundation course pack and I intend to spend one lesson introducing the new material and doing the written work sheet and another consolidating with interactive games based on the vocab, listening exercise etc. The advanced course has 20 modules.
Taking a whole academic year may seem like a long time for the original eight hour course, but students will still be progressing much faster than they normally would. We use "levels" to assess progress and whereas a Year 7 student might be expected to be performing at level three by the end of the year, with this course I fully expect that most students could be working at level six or seven by the end of the first year.

I had a look at the Michel Thomas courses available and I am totally confused. There are so many courses, Beginner, Advanced, Booster, Language Builder, Deluxe, XY with Michel Thomas, Get Started, Speak XY with Michel Thomas, Vocabulary Builder, Foundation, Review, Introductory, etc.
Which courses do I have to obtain to get the most comprehensive combination?
I have read most of this thread, but I feel this specific question wasn't asked or answered yet.
