Hi Anthony,

I have watched all your videos on this method and I have to say they are very
interesting. One thing I would like to ask is how you divide up big topics.

Inside every big topic are dozens of small topics waiting to break out. I deliberately
limit the scope of the topic to be just big enough to satisfy the current itch of my
curiosity, and small enough not be overwhelming. The last thing you want is burn out.
It is always good to leave a little in reserve, with your curiosity still ever so
slightly hungry, and therefore eager for the next iteration.

In terms of football, for example, I wouldn't expect to dive into it all in one go.
More likely, my curiosity would be tingling about some aspect of football: for example,
what are the names of the various playing positions and how do they relate to one
another. Tackling just that is both feasible in a single session, and satisfyingly
bounded as a sub-topic.

Later on, once that knowledge has settled down inside me, I might find my brain
wondering how penalty shots work, or what happens in the event of injuries, and so on.

Overall, then, steady and continual progress, just chipping away each day, with small
topics building on one another, is the most sustainable means I have found (at least
for myself) to get things done.

Thank you for such a speedy and informative response.

I have to say that makes perfect sense. Of course there are more to fractions than the
few things you mention in your video's, just as there is plenty to dive into in other
topics. However, it never occurred to me that topics could be divided into sub-topics -
which makes me feel pretty daft now.

Anyway, once again your excellent video's are a joy to watch. You have a very genial
style of preenting which is a nice change from people trying to bang you over the head
with what they 'know'. Regards

Slow connection here, and I'm having a great deal of difficulty watching the videos. This morning I can't access it at all. The posts make me really curious, and the two minutes I was able to watch of the first video suggest my learning style/handicaps match yours, so I look forward to reading about your method.

A study method that is recommended to students is talking to themselves after reading and understanding their lessons. You are supposed to explain aloud the lesson imagining that you are explaining it to other people.

If it is possible to do this with science, history or maths, it is possible to do it with grammar or languages.

The big difference is the recording and listening again part and that your curiosity is narrowed to the lessons you must study.

I just finished watching the first 3 videos and I found them very inspiring! I definitely think I could benefit from this method. I am also quite an analytical person (also a computer scientist, in fact), and I'm often frustrated by courses that say something, but don't explain why it's so, and then I'm left wondering. Pimsleur German has this effect on me, since I don't yet understand all the cases perfectly.

Thanks so much for making these videos!

After a long delay due to other commitments, I have just uploaded
Spiral Method - Part 4

This will probably be the last video on the Spiral Method, since I think I have pretty
much covered everything now. There may be a future Q&A video, based on comments from
viewers.

My next video will be on a completely different topic :-)

Very good. You are brilliant. I am looking for your Q&A video.

I will try this thinking aloud in target languages and mixing them with my native languages in several crazy loops.

Perhaps it would be a good idea to add the 4th link to your first post so everyone can see them sequentially before coming up with more questions or comments :)
