In terms of grammar, it's pretty heavy, yes. But then, I like that...

I'm waiting for this one to hit Amazon. Shipping to the States borders on the line of
extortion.

Hi all :)
Does anyone have any more views/reviews/problems with the new Russian Assimil? For a
poor student 60 odd quid is a fair bit but I am willing to part with my money if it
will be worth it in the long run.
My experience with Russian is 1 year of studying in my first year of university but I
absolutely hated the classes and did not get on with the teacher. I probably have a
vocabulary of about 100 words and can string a few BASIC sentences together. I really
want to give Russian a second go and am thinking of buying this course from Amazon.fr
seeing as I am currently doing a work placement for my university course here in
France.
Some of you mentioned that this version may not be as good as some other courses? I
will potentially have 4 months over the summer to devote to my languages before I
return to uni so I really want to take advantage of this time and am confident that I
can get to a solid A2/B1 in Russian.
I would be really grateful if someone could reply to this thread to help me out!
Thanks!

I'll also be patiently waiting to get a thorough review of this course. Even if it isn't perfect or "as good" as other Assimil Russian courses, the fact that it is with an English base is on its own a huge plus.

Yeah I really want to buy it but it is alot of money so I want to be sure it will get me
to a good level (with me putting in lots of hard work too)
I still don't 100% understand the whole assimil thing and there isn't much/any details of
the course on their website but other users here have recommended other assimil courses
so I will wait and see for this one.

I agree, but I just learned that deastore.com (an Italian site) now offers free worldwide
shipping and carries (or can get) lots of French books.

I've decided to place my order just now for this course. I hope the shipping to the US
is not too slow as I am moving at the end of May...

It arrived today. Their shipping is very pricey, but I can't complain about the speed,
haha. Ordered direct from Assimil Friday. It processed Saturday and arrived here today
(Monday). Though I did notice it shipped from an address in Miami, and not Paris,
so....feels like a bit of a rip-off shipping price wise.
Anyway, I'm excited to have it, but I wish it had not arrived before I finished all my
finals, haha. It looks very good from the bit of flipping around I did. Very thorough
index, lots of grammar instruction, etc...
I'm still going to try to fight temptation and finish at least level 1 of Pimsleur and MT
first :)
