That's a weird site indeed. For instance, they say it should be é, but the girl says è. Find another site.

Where it says "The [ə] sound is similar to the u sound of knuckle. The letter e of these short one syllable words is pronounced as [ə]", the female is pronouncing the words incorrectly and is in fact using this sound [Ø]. So instead of saying je/me/te/le/se/ce/que/de/ne, she's saying jeu/meu/teu/leu/ceu/queu/deu/neu.

Thank you everyone for your help. Pertaining to the pronunciation of the schwa as a slashed o, I have read that many people consider the sounds equivalent and that in a word-final position, the two are merged.
