As a fan of the US cartoon "Family Guy", to my ears, the "hero" Peter Griffin (or
"Pedah"), has the ultimate non Rhotic American accent. I believe it's supposed to be
set in Rhode Island. I love listening to it in that context, although I'm not sure I
could listen to it for long in "real life". I quite like the Bostonian accent though,
perhaps because it sounds rather "English" (although does it really come from
Irish...?).

To the OP, I'd say the really smart thing to do would be to try to adopt a more
American accent when speaking to Americans, and a more British one (or less American
one), when speaking with Britons. If you spent a long time in either country, I'm sure
you'd naturally adapt, in any case.

(I get the impression that Americans find a British accent kind of cute as a novelty,
but get fed up of it pretty soon, and maybe it works the same over here, so people just
generally adapt to their surroundings, or at least soften their natural accent a
little).

To my ears, Dutch people speaking English always seem to have a slightly American twang
to them, which I have assumed is because they are exposed to a lot of US films and TV,
although it maybe something about the Dutch language itself that causes it.
