I just wanted to share a funny story about something that happened to me while I was in the US. Feel free to post any funny grammar stories you might have.

I was visiting one of my nephews and his family at their house. They have a rather annoying dog that likes to slobber and sneeze on people and sit on people’s feet. So, they’ve trained this dog to sit and lie down. To make him sit, they hold their hand palm up with their thumb and index finger in a circle and say, “sit.” To make him lie down, they hold their hand the same way, but palm down, and say, “lay.” I didn’t say anything the first time they did this, but the dog jumps up a lot, so they repeated this many times and eventually it started to make me a little crazy. So I said to my nephew, “It’s ‘lie’ not ‘lay.’” He asked why and I explained that the one was intransitive and the other transitive. He thought about it a little, and then said, “He’s just a dog. He’s too stupid to know the difference.”

Personally, I think the dog might not be the only one.
