I agree with what your father said! I think it applies to most things worth achieving in life, actually :D

That sounds very interesting. I don't think I'd be able to study 4 languages at once
though! xP
How long do you think it'll take to get through a good part of your list of languages? |

I study daily but no longer than 1 hour. I study Chinese, French, Georgian and Norwegian. I started Chinese
in June 2011 and Georgian in January from scratch and I'm about A2 at both. I decided to brush up French
since January and I think I went from B1 to B2 since then. I think 3 years would be ok for each language, but
then for a few of them I'd be happy with B1. So, I think in 10 years I'll have satisfied my curiosity and learned
some 5 or 6 that i find more necessary up to a higher level.

Croatian :( Let's hope for late 2013...
In the "liked but not loved" group are Finnish and Turkish.
Oh, and Ukrainian, my biggest shame (that I'm not bilingual); still only dabbling.

Turkish. The language really attracts me but I have zero time for it right now.

For me it would be Turkish, (Modern) Hebrew, and Amharic.
I took a summer intensive course for Turkish several years ago, but afterwards I dropped it because I was focusing on Arabic. After Arabic, Persian captured my immediate interest more, in addition to the fact that I had Persian-speaking friends from each of the main Persian-speaking countries (Iran, Afghanistan, and Tajikistan). Due to lack of excellent written resources, I had to make the best of the opportunity to learn Persian. After that, I was interested in learning another Romance language, and I focused on French for about three years. Now I am studying Portuguese.
I have not quite yet decided which I'll study first: Turkish or Hebrew. On one hand, I've somehow retained much of my knowledge of Turkish, so it seems like a good choice. However, I also want to better understand the relationship between it and Arabic. Amharic is beautiful, but there are few resources and I don't know anyone who speaks it.

I love to hear Spanish when it is spoken and I always say, and think to myself, that I will learn Spanish to a high level (eventually C2) but I never stick with it long enough.
