I'm a great fan of physical flashcards because I can make notes on them. I always work with entire sentences. I believe that learning individual words is a waste of time. I've done some Anki but I decided that despite the cumbersome format good old-fashioned paper flashcards can do the job. I also use a notebook with a few hundred entries and all sorts of scribbles. Maybe it qualifies as a wordlist. When I have a bit of time I simply read through the book to remind myself of certain things.

While I think that both words and sentences can be useful (and phrases which are not
complete sentences), why, as a matter of interest, do you think that learning
individual words is a waste of time?
