I should point out that the demo for Michel Thomas French at the site given by Cainntear does not include any French at all.

Ermm... what? It's an hour-long French lesson. It starts with the instructions, as you would expect....

I hate to give the wrong information. So I went back to the Michel Thomas demo site and again listened to the Listen now for free French Audion Clip, and it did not contain a single word of French. The other language links worked quite well (I didn't try them all I'll admit). Maybe other people will have better results.

I just tested it. If you choose the "Listen now to your free Clip" you get just the ground rules. However if you "Download the audio clip" -it is also free- (the second option) you, indeed do get an actual French lesson.

Cheers.

I have made my own frequency lists by using .srt files in the target language.

These are subtitle files intended for target language native speakers to understand English language movies and TV series.

Of course, each movie or TV show has a skewed vocabulary. However, the larger the amount of data you pool and the more diverse your sources then the better quality a list you will obtain.

I need to do this sometime for Dutch, been meaning to get around to it for a very long time.
